September Newsletter

So, September is almost over and I'm just now doing the Newsletter.....

This whole schedule of school for two kids is hard- I had no idea. Those Moms out there that have been doing this for years have been making it look too easy.

Jack goes to school everyday at 11:05 which isn't too hard. Brian goes on M,W,F from 8:45 to 11:45 so as soon as I drop off Jack, I wait around to pick up Brian. I have 40 minutes 3 times a week to myself. I was hoping that they would have school at the exact same time so I could have 3 hours....oh well.
So that is why I haven't done a Newsletter until now....

Technique Corner

Stratch and Sniff Technique
by Beate Johns

Supplies Needed:

Clear Embossing Powder
Sugar Free drink Mix, Cinnamon, nutmeg, or sugar-free hot chocolate mix- (sugar will scorch so use a sugar free scented powder to mix with embossing powder)
Solid stamp
Heat tool
Versamark
Small Container
Measuring Spoon
Cardstock

Step 1
Add one measuring spoon full of chosen "scent"

Step 2
Add 1 and 1/2 spoonfuls of clear embossing powder to same container

Step 3
Mix the drink mix and the clear embossing powder together. Set aside.

Step 4
Ink stamp with Versamark where the scent should be.**See Color Option Step 4

Color Option Step 4:
If you use pigment ink instead of Versamark, add color to the stamp with markers or ink pads- use colors that match the color of your chosen scent powder.

Step 5
Stamp Image on Cardstock

Step 6
Pour scent mix/embossing powder over the stamped image. Tap off excess powder.

Step 7
Use heat tool to heat and melt the embossing powder mix

Step 8
Finish your card as you like....

The new stamp set "Under the Stars" would be cute to do the smores with the hot chocolate mix....

I'm going to try to do a scratch and sniff with Cinnamon for a Halloween card- I'm hoping it turns out the way I hope it does!!

I'm hoping to do that on Tuesday so look back for my example.

So, that's it for September.

Please feel free to email, call or let me know if you want to either book a workshop or just get together and play with stamps. I'm always open for creating!

Stamping Club

Hi Everybody that reads this blog.....

I don't know how many of you there are, so feel free to say hello when you read this.

I want to start my stamping club asap because I want to get it established for when the club I'm currently in, finishes. I thought the current club would be finished in September, but I had forgotten that a couple of people had joined late and that extended the length of the club as to accomodate everyone having hostess benefits.....

So, I want to have everyone who is interested please sign up by either sending me an email or leaving me a message on this blog...

These are the conditions of the club:

However many people there are in the club is how many months the club with run ( 6 people =6 months).
Depending upon the amount of people who sign up, the required amount of order each meeting will be set- usually $25 (minimum of 6 people) and that insures everyone receives hostess benefits for each club meeting.

Each month we will learn a technique- hopefully new to everyone, but not guaranteed that it will be new to everyone.....

As each person signs up, that will be the order of their hostess month. So the first person to sign up will have the first hostess benefits.
Also, when it is your month to be hostess, you are encouraged to bring a friend, get outside orders, etc. to boost the amount of hostess benfits you receive...
You can also host a workshop around the same time as the club meeting and the two orders can be combined so you get even more hostess benefits.....the higher the order, the more free product you receive! (I love that part!)

So, who's first???? Those of you that are already part of other clubs, you may still sign up even though you won't be starting immediately....please let me know your intent to join so I can save a spot for you!

I have a plan for our first project! I can't wait to share it with you !

I will be placing an order in the next week or so if anyone needs anything, let me know-

The New Catalog!

So this is what the new catalog looks like- and it has a scallop edge! I love it....

There's a new promotion that started August 11th- it is 15% off brand new stamps- they've never done this before. I just tried to upload a copy of the brochure, but it didn't recognize the format- its because its a pdf and I can't download it.....ugh.

I guess I'll just add a link. http://lucylevitow.stampinup.net/ This is my Stampin' UP! Demonstrator website and if you scroll down, there is a place for promotions....sorry to send you to another site.

So, I had my second workshop/party. It was so much fun- Thanks Beth!
This is one of the cards we made - Too bad I didn't plan on posting this picture, because I would've moved it prior to taking the picture! I took the picture right after I made it and it was on my messy dining room table...I have this vinyl table cloth that I bought at Wal-mart (on clearance for $1)to keep my tables safe while my boys painted. Noone was really supposed to see it. Well......since we've been having the stamp club at my house, I started using it so I wouldn't worry about my dining room table getting ruined. I call it the family heirloom!
I want to have another workshop/party. I'm thinking of having it at my house. I'd like to do it before the end of the month....what does everyone think?
If there is enough interest, then I'll do it. Just leave me a message or email me.
I'm just getting over a stomach bug that's going through my house so this is all for now- I'm hoping to update next week with some other information and maybe a technique included....check back soon!
Thanks for stopping by and thanks to all that came to Beth's workshop August 1st. It was a lot of fun!

Stamping Bundle

Hi there everybody,

So, I'm doing a workshop on Friday and I'm a little nervous about it. Not as nervous as my first one, but still a little nervous. Especially since I'm still very new at this.

I've come up with a "Getting Started" bundle that should help people get started on their way with the new hobby of stamping. I've included choices in the bundles because I figured, if someone offered me a bundle, I'd say "I like it except I don't like the stamp set" or I'd be the one saying "I like it all except...." whatever and want to know whether I could substitute something. So instead, I have put it together so that there is a bundle at 4 different prices with a bunch of different choices- stamp set, color family of paper, color of stamp pad, and color of taffeta ribbon.

These bundles include a stamp set, a package of assorted 8 1/2 x 11 paper, snail adhesive, classic stamp pad, and taffeta ribbon. The first package is 38.29, second is 40.84, third is 42.54 and finally the last is 49.34. The cost of the bundle is 15% off catalog prices. The difference in the packages is the cost of the stamp set. Everything else is the same- The stamp sets range from 17.95-30.95.

With these bundles, there are plenty supplies to create a beautiful card to send to someone to show them you are thinking of them.....take time to create something today! Call me to get more details on the bundles.

You don't have to be new to take advantage of the bundle special.

I've gotten my preview items from the new catalog!!!

Hi Everybody,

Well, this past week I got a package from Stampin' Up! with the new "In Color" cardstock, a new package of Designer Series Paper, and a scallop border punch......I love that thing! I keep playing with it and I do love it!

Something to think of when placing your next order, the new catalog will be out on August 11th so that means time is running out to get your retiring stamps! Let me know if I can put in an order for you before you can no longer get those stamp sets.

Also, there are two ribbons that are no longer available:

double stitched purely pomegranate ribbon and
double stitched blue bayou ribbon

So those two items are no longer available-

The retiring accessories list is being posted at 7am on Monday, so I'll send out an email as soon as I can letting you all know what is on the list. The list will be updated daily (even on Sat and Sun) so I can always check the site prior to sending in an order.

If anyone wants to get together and just create, give me a call, I'm always up for a "craft day"!!!!

If you don't have my number, just add a comment and i'll get in touch with you....I get emailed as soon as a comment is placed!

July NewsBLetter (combo of newsletter and blog!)

Fall/Winter 2008 Catalog

The new catalog will be out August 11, 2008. You can order products from the current catalog until the night of August 10th. If you want to order something and want to wait until then, let me know by the 5th of August so I can plan to put in an order. Sometimes if you wait to put in an order at the last minute, it doesn't get processed right away because of the rush.

  • HODGEPODGE HARDWARE 25% OFF WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. PAGE 188 IN CURRENT CATALOG

  • RETIRING LIST

WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE A PREVIEW OF THE NEW "IN COLOR" COLORS?

I will receive a shipment on July 17th (according to UPS) and will have the new In Color- colors and one of the new Designer Series Paper. I will also have one of the new punches that will be in the new catalog.....

Call me to book a workshop and see a preview of the new catalog!

***************************************************************************

3-D PROJECTS

There are many 3-D projects that can be made with your cardstock. Really cute stuff that you can use as gift boxes, containers for shower favors, teacher gifts, and even boxes for your cards. I have many patterns to make these cute items. Let me know if you'd like to see them and I can get templates to you and help you make them. No workshop needed! The two-sided cardstock is great for these projects.

***************************************************************************

CARDS WE ALL HATE TO MAKE, BUT NEED TO HAVE ON HAND

Yep- I'm talking about sympathy cards. We hate to think of them, but when we need one, we don't really feel like sitting down to see if our creative juices are flowing. They are usually needed right away so don't wait- as you're doing one card, make one that you can put a "thinking of you" on and you can use that as your sympathy card.

*************************************************************

Stamping Club

I want to start a stamping club that meets once or twice a month- once to have just a get together and create and the 2nd meeting would be more of a workshop. It won't be starting until after September as I'm already committed to another club.

If you're interested in doing this, let me know......

**************************************************************************

Lastly, I have a great tutorial I found for dyeing ribbon- this way you can use your reinkers to dye white ribbon to match your project! If you try this, email me pictures so I can see what you've done!

RIBBON DYEING

By Amy Rysavy

Supplies:

White grosgrain ribbon
Spray bottle filled with water
Small container
Gloves
Paper towel
Scissors
Hairdryer or heat gun
Reinker

Directions:

Take 2 yards of ribbon and wrap around fingers to get a manageable bundle.

Spray water into a small container- for this amount of ribbon spray approximately 15 times.

Add about 10 drops of reinker. The mixture will be much darker than the finished product. If ribbon dries too light, you can always re-dye using more reinker.

Put the ribbon into the container with mixture of water and ink
Press ribbon into mixture until fully saturated.

If ribbon has absorbed all of the mixture and is still white, pull the ribbon out and add more water and re-inker then repeat previous steps.

Remove ribbon and place on paper towel to absorb any excess moisture.

Unwind ribbon and blot with paper towel to speed drying process. To heat set the dye and finish drying the ribbon, use a hairdryer or heat gun – it will only take a minute or two….use caution with heat gun and don’t burn your fingers….
